A march for Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike took place in Ramallah on July 7, organized by Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association and the Higher Follow-Up Committee for Prisoners. Among the participants was Abla Sa’adat, Ahmad Sa’adat’s wife, and many other family members of prisoners in Israeli jails.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Committee in Nablus sent a delegation to Ramallah on July 2, to visit the homes first of imprisoned Palestinian leader and general secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ahmad Sa’adat. The delegation included members of the family of Sa’adat’s comrade, Ahed Abu Ghoulmeh. The delegates also visited Beit Rima, the hometown of Mohammad Rimawi and Abdullah Barghouthi, two of the five Jordanian prisoners currently engaged in a hunger strike demanding their release to Jordan, along with Muneer Mar’i, Alaa Hammad, and Hamza Othman al-Dabbas.. They have been on hunger strike since May 2.
Mohammad Rimawi is one of Sa’adat’s comrades, and has been imprisoned in Israeli jails in 2002. As Rimawi has been engaged in a long-term hunger strike, the Israel Prison Services abruptly demanded to meet with the leadership of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine prison branch on Thursday, July 4, in an attempt to pressure them to convince PFLP leader and Jordanian hunger striker Mohammad Rimawi to break his open hunger strike that has now continued for 65 days.
The IPS demanded the leadership of the PFLP inside the prisons call upon Rimawi to lift his strike, which they inside the prisons rejected, saying they stand fully with the Jordanian prisoners on hunger strike and particularly Rimawi.
The PFLP leadership emphasized their support for the demands of the Jordanian prisoners and the justice of their cause, warning the Zionist prison officials of the consequences of deterioriation in their health and the seriousness of their situation, particularly as some, including Rimawi, suffer from serious diseases, and called for broad action to support the hunger strikers
