saadThe Palestinian Prisoners Society, in cooperation with the National and Islamic Forces, held a rally in solidarity with Ahmad Sa’adat and all Palestinian prisoners on June 25, 2009, in front of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) building in Bethlehem.

The protest was attended by many prisoners’ families, carrying photos of their imprisoned children, husbands, wives, mothers and fathers, and banners condemning the Israeli attacks against the prisoners attempting to break their steadfastness and morale. They called upon international institutions and human rights organizations to take action to defend the prisoners against these violations of their rights, which violate all international covenants and norms.

The President of the Prisoners’ Clubs saluted Sa’adat and his hunger strike that lasted for nearly nine days against isolation and solitary confinement in the prisons, as well as all of the other prisoners held in solitary confinement and all of the prisoners of the occupation.

The governor of Bethlehem sent warm greetings to all the families of prisoners who face all kinds of oppression and injustice. He stressed that the prisoners are heroes, and that the spirits of our people remain confident of victory, and pay tribute to the prisoners and their sacrifices in order to free their people and their land. He stressed the centrality of the issue of the prisoners to all Palestinians, and the need for all prisoners to return home to their families.
